POWER OF KILAUEA
TODAY SHOW: May 1, 2000: NBC's Fred Francis drops onto the slopes of Kilauea for an awe-inspiring up close look at the volcano during an eruption. The National Park Service provided rare access, including permission to fly a chopper over and land near active lava flows. This dramatic story demonstrates the ability to tell a story about an inanimate object (Kilauea) through great human characters who live with the mountain and its powerful destructive force. This report was the lead story when Matt Lauer visited the Big Island of Hawaii as part of his series, "Where In The World Is Matt?" Producer and Co-Writer: Michael Austin. Cameraman: Mick Kalber. Cameraman: Maurice Roper. Soundman: Craig Nilson. Video Editor: Steve Sung.
